Sunday we wrapped up this series of messages by looking realizing that there are times when we need to go, even though it would be easier to stay.
"The Lord said to Abram, "Leave your country, your people and your father's household and go to the land I will show you."
Abram and Sara were told to leave where they had settled for many years, they were comfortable and ad a great life. But God had other plans for them. In fact, God had a HUGE plan for their lives. At the age of 75 Abram was told he would be the father of a great nation and all the people on the earth will be blessed because of him.
I'm sure that had to cause him to step back and laugh out loud and to fall down if he was standing up. Imagine yourself in their shoes, how would you respond to such a crazy idea. Not only to leave but that the wife of my youth who has been barren would now become a mother? And me a Father? Come on God, don't be messing with my head, heart and emotions.
Well if you know the story it all comes to true, but all this was hinged on their faithfulness to the call that God was placing on them. All of this was based upon their response to GO when it would have been easier to stay.
Remember, to step toward your destiny, you might have to step away from your security. That has been so true in my own life and in the lives of so many others found in scripture and in life today.
A good friend of mine wrote this week, "Faithfulness has always been a rare quality. Most people don't know the meaning of commitment. They make commitments casually, then break them for the slightest reason without any hesitation, remorse, or regret. Can you be counted on by others? Are there promises you need to keep, vows you need to fulfill, or commitments you need to honor? God has promised to reward your faithfulness in eternity. Imagine what it will feel like one day to have God say to you, "Well done, my good and faithful servant." The more you bless other people and the more you help others, the more God blesses your life." - Mike Fenton
I pray that as you contemplate living a life that worth telling that you will START a discipline, STOP something that is hindering, consider STAYING when it would be easier to walk away and to GO when God calls. The decisions you make today definitely determine the stories that you will tell tomorrow.
"Let us fix our eyes on Jesus who is the author and perfector of our faith." Hebrews 12:2
