Good Afternoon Harvesters,
Sunday we began an new series call "Excuses." Things that are really not so much excuses as they are sins that we have justified in our lives. Our key verse for this series is Psalm 139:23-24, "Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends You, and lead me along the path of everlasting life."
We were reminded Sunday that God hates lying and we know this but yet the average woman lies 3 times a day and men 6 times a day! I find it humorous that after speaking with several people following the message on Sunday that they think that those numbers are particularly low, especially for the men...LOL!!
I find it very interesting that Jesus tells us in John 8:44, "...[Satan] was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is liar and the father of lies." Lying is his native language and that is a good reminder for all of us, that no matter what our enemy tries to whisper in our ears, that anything he says is a lie. There is no truth in him at all. Not matter how sweet or innocent he may try to make things sound or tempt us that it is okay everyone is doing it, that it is all a lie and nothing good an come from it.
I have learned in life is that no matter what, the truth is better than the lie, especially when it comes to myself. Lying to ourselves not only confuses us, it confuses others. It creates more and more masks that we wear and baggage we carry in life, to hide the lies that we are living. Then when we look in the mirror we wander who we are looking at? Who is it that we are seeing, because we have lost our true identity. I said Sunday, 'The farther our true self is from God's truth, the more we lie!' All this leads to justification of our sin and why, we do lie.
I am so thankful that Jesus tells us in John 8:32, "Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." True freedom and living in the truth starts with Him. Let us keep our eyes, heart and mind on the truth of the chain breaker, Jesus.
