Galatians 5:16-17 reminds us, "So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. 17 For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want."
Sunday we learned that 'What you feed grows, and what you starve dies.' So what are you feeding and starving? Sometimes we get in the mode of saying, 'Oh this temptation is so great, I might as well just give in and get this over with.' The more we give in to the temptation, the greater the desire to sin will grow, no matter what we struggle with and it opens the door for our enemy to gain ground in our life and keep us defeated.
If we overcome those desires we can gain victory and strength. So how do we do that? By depending on the power of the Holy Spirit. Remember Romans 8:12-13 tells us, "…You have no obligation to do what your sinful nature urges you to do. 13 For if you live by its dictates, you will die. But if through the power of the Spirit you put to death the deeds of your sinful nature, you will live."
The key to gaining ground and living victoriously is realizing that you are only as strong as you are honest. Admitting that we are powerless over _____________. And asking for the Holy Spirit to give me strength, to heal and make us whole. It is through His power alone that we can have victory over temptation and sin. We are not strong enough on our own to defeat it. It is truly through the power of the Holy Spirit that enables us to live free.
I hope that you depending on His power and following His lead in your life. Remembering that we have no obligation to sin but to live in the freedom of His love, grace and power.
Sunday we will conclude our series see you then!
