Sunday I asked for to write down what your greatest temptation is so that we can honestly asses how we are doing and how to overcome, to to know how to escape.
Remember the Process of Temptation: Thought, Imagination, Justification, Choice and Sin. These steps can take days, weeks, months, or even years, or literally, you can go through all five of these steps in a matter of moments.
But the great thing is that James 4:7 reminds us that in order to resist temptation, to find our escape that we must, “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.”
By us not just running from temptation but first keeping ourselves submitted to God is the key. When I am submitted to God it is easier to resist temptation. When I am not submitted to God, it is more difficult to resist it.
A key to helping stay on track is if we keep self aware of what are weakness's are so that we can then eliminate temptation really before it becomes a temptation. Proverbs 4:14-15, he says, “Do not set foot on the path of the wicked or walk in the way of evildoers.”
If you eat chips, you could eat nine bags of chips in one setting. So, when you are in the grocery store, you skip the chip aisle. And if a tempting thought comes we immediately go to Jesus because Hebrews 2:18 reminds us, “Because (Jesus) Himself suffered when He was tempted, He is able to help those who are being tempted.”
Isn't great to know we have a God who is faithful and understanding is willing to help us, who wants to help us defeat our enemy.
Sunday we will continue our series and look forward to being together!
