Our Story

How it all started...

At an April 2, 1919 meeting, the Mitchell Church of the Nazarene was organized under the guidance of W.H. Tullis, District Superintendent. On April 6th, the day of the dedication, 36 charter members were received.
Since then, the Mitchell Church has been in 4 locations and a growing a vibrant part of the Mitchell community.  In 2000 the church changed its name from First Church of the Nazarene to Harvest Community Church of the Nazarene or better known today as Harvest Community.
Harvest has made an impact in Mitchell and the surrounding 40 miles for over 100 years and is still growing and making a difference for God's Kingdom.

Expanding the vision...

Our Purpose: Helping people discover Christ through the seasons of life. - "Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage--with great patience and careful instruction." - 2 Timothy 4:2

Our Vision: to establish a strong rooted relationship with Christ. - "They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit." - Jeremiah 17:8

WE HAVE A MISSION FOR OUR CHURCH WHERE:
Everyone is RESTORED - Helping people to find Christ and restore the broken relationship with God and with others. "...then that person can pray to God and find favor with him, they will see God's face and shout for joy; he will restore them to full well-being." - Job 33:26

Everyone is GROWING - To become deeply rooted in His love and allowing the Holy Spirit to transform us from the inside out. Growing in our walk with Christ so that our lives will produce fruit. "so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light." - Colossians 1:10-12

Everyone is GIVING - That we help others to give of their time in service and of their resources to help reveal Christ's love to the world. "Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up." - Galatians 6:9

Everyone is WORSHIPING - That all of us are God's living stories of His love and message of salvation and that through our lives we worship Him in all we do. "Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God--this is your true and proper worship." - Romans 12:1
